What You’ll Discover
We shaped this two-day retreat to show the many sides of Hakone, a mountain hot spring region within easy reach of Tokyo. We take you from an open-air sculpture museum and a garden of seasonal flowers to a ropeway over a steaming volcanic valley, then a cruise across Lake Ashi to the lakeside torii of Hakone Shrine. With transport and an overnight stay arranged, you're free to move between art, nature, and quiet water at your own pace.
Ride the ropeway over Ōwakudani, a live volcanic valley of steaming sulfur vents, with Mount Fuji on the horizon on a clear day.
Sail across Lake Ashi to the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine standing in the water, one of the region's most recognizable sights.
Wander the Hakone Open-Air Museum, where monumental sculptures, mountain views, and one of Japan's largest Picasso collections come together.
