We built this ten-day journey to pair Tokyo's art, culture, and design with the shrines, waterfalls, and volcanic scenery of the wider Kanto region. A private vehicle and dedicated guide take you through nearly every day of sightseeing, with a sleek new express train bringing you back to Tokyo from Tochigi midway through the journey. We start in the capital, taking in its oldest temple and one of its most immersive digital art experiences, then head north to Nikko, where the ornately carved Tōshō-gū Shrine sits among towering cedars, waterfalls, lakes, and marshland. From there we continue through the Edo-themed world of Kinugawa, the Great Buddha and seaside atmosphere of Kamakura and Enoshima, and the volcanic valleys and lakes of Hakone, before returning to Tokyo for one last look at its design scene and skyline. Shrines and mountains, lakes and coast, all within easy reach of the capital.

Day 7 - Kamakura
Slow right down in Kamakura today, a seaside town where temples tuck into wooded coastal hills. Come face to face with the Great Buddha of Kōtoku-in Temple — a great bronze figure seated calmly in the open air, so large you tip your head back to meet its gaze. Then cross the short causeway to Enoshima, climbing the shop-lined lanes and shrine steps as sea views open at every turn, pausing for lunch somewhere along the way with the coast in sight. Ride up the Sea Candle lighthouse and look out over the bay, the coastline and, on a clear day, Mount Fuji ranged along the horizon.
