We built this eleven-day voyage to trace Japan from its capital to the calm of the Seto Inland Sea, following the country's story from imperial tradition to modern resilience. We begin in Tokyo, where the ancient Sensō-ji Temple stands within sight of the Skytree, then take you by Shinkansen to Kyoto, home to gilded pavilions, thousand-year shrines, and a sake brewery we think worth slowing down for. From there we continue west, through cosmopolitan Kobe, the great white keep of Himeji Castle, the classical Kōraku-en Garden of Okayama, and finally Hiroshima, where the Peace Memorial and the floating torii of Itsukushima Shrine sit within a single day's reach. We have paced the route to move steadily across regions and eras, so that it closes among some of the most moving and beautiful places we know.
